1. Overview & Commitment to Privacy
At StudyTrail, we strongly believe that your study habits and notes belong entirely to you. StudyTrail is built with a "privacy-first" architecture. The core application works locally on your device without forcing you to register an account or transmit your study logs to external cloud servers.
2. Data Stored Locally on Your Device
The following information is stored directly on your phone using a local, secure SQLite database:
- Focus sessions, timers, and active study tracking history.
- Subject list, topics, study tasks, and personal notes.
- Productivity charts, streaks, and milestone achievements.
- User preferences such as theme (dark/light mode) and language selection.
3. Device Permissions & Usage
In compliance with Google Play Developer policies, StudyTrail only requests necessary runtime and device permissions:
- Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS): Used to deliver timely Pomodoro break alerts, timer completion prompts, and gentle daily study streak reminders.
- Microphone & Audio (RECORD_AUDIO): Used exclusively for speech-to-text input when dictating study notes or interacting hands-free with StudyTrail Buddy. Audio is processed solely for your command and is never recorded or stored secretly.
- Camera & Storage (CAMERA / Photo Picker): Used only when you choose to personalize your avatar or attach reference photos to your subjects.
- Biometrics (USE_BIOMETRIC): Allows you to lock the app behind your device fingerprint or PIN. Authentication is handled by Android's native secure hardware without StudyTrail accessing biometric templates.
- Do Not Disturb (ACCESS_NOTIFICATION_POLICY): An optional focus enhancement allowing you to suppress phone distractions during a study session, enabled only if explicitly authorized in system settings.
4. Third-Party Services & Analytics
To maintain app quality and diagnose crashes, we may utilize reputable industry tools like Google Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics. These collect non-personally identifiable diagnostic information, including:
- Device model, OS version, and network performance indicators.
- Crash stack traces to help us fix bugs quickly.
- Aggregated, anonymous usage metrics to improve feature usability.
5. AI Companion (Buddy)
StudyTrail Buddy provides intelligent encouragement and answers study queries. When you submit a question or prompt, only the relevant text context is transmitted to provide a response. Your queries are not used to build personal advertising profiles or sold to data brokers.
6. Children's Privacy
StudyTrail is designed for students of all ages. We do not knowingly collect, store, or solicit personal identification information from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately so we can remove it.
7. Data Backup & Portability
You have total ownership of your data. StudyTrail offers a built-in export/import feature, letting you create your own local backups and transfer your history between devices whenever you want.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may occasionally update this Privacy Policy to reflect app updates or regulatory adjustments. Any changes will be published here with a revised "Last updated" date.
